How to Permanently Remove Facebook Photos

Facebook makes it easy to upload and share photos with your friends and the entire world. Over time, however, you may wish to delete photos. Maybe they're inappropriate, or maybe you simply don't want them posted anymore. Facebook allows you to easily permanently delete individual photos or entire photo albums. Keep in mind, however, that you can only delete photos that you have posted -- not those that others have posted of you, but we can help you with that as well.

The first step is surfing on over to your timeline (log on to Facebook, click on your name in the top right corner). Then select your photos, which are just under your Cover Photo.

On the next page, you have three choices:

In the center, Photos are individual pictures you have posted in chronological order. On the right, Albums are those same photos, but organized into grouped albums -- also in chronological order. And finally, to the left, Photos of You (ours says Photos of Steve's Digicams) are pictures taken by other folks, in which you have been tagged. We'll get to that in a moment.

Deleting Photos

To delete individual photos, select Photos (or Albums then one specific album) and mouse over the photo you want removed. Click on the little pencil and select Delete This Photo.

Deleting Albums

To remove an entire album, select Albums at the top of your photos page -- you'll see a thumbnail list of all of your albums -- followed by the specific album you want to remove. On the next page, click on on circular widget with the pulldown menu, and choose Delete Album.

Untagging Photos of You

When someone posts a picture and "tags" you in it, Facebook links the photo to your timeline for the world to see. You might not want to have any association to it, but because you didn't upload the picture, you cannot delete it (or any other person's photos for that matter). The only thing you can do is untag yourself from the picture.report-remove_tag_facebook.jpg
